A breathing Town called Blanca
Blanca, Region of Murcia, Spain.
The Centro Negra in Blanca became the next station of Ireen Zielonka’s project “The breath of a space” that started in Berlin. The essential prerequisite was the employment and discovery of the ancient greek word Pneuma (the breath of life, both literally and metaphorically).
Working in Blanca, her intention was to analyze and study the “breeze” of the region. Explore the landscape, the architecture, discover the Pneuma of the area, and then deconstruct it and develop a new point of view of the town.

24hrs wind analysis at the submontane of a Moorish Castle
Visualization of the wind on the Black Mountain in Blanca, Region of Murcia, Spain.
Blanca was build on the submontane of the “Montaña Negro”. The historic Arab part of the town goes along the mountain and partly directly up the hill, so that one wall of the buildings consists of the mountain rock. The town’s landmark is a ruin of a Moorish castle from the 12th century. The ruin is situated on the plateau of the “Montaña Negro”.
The wind is blowing from the plateau down to the city. Especially in the afternoon and late at night gives the impression as if the wind would rise. The wind decreases between midnight and dawn and from the middle of the day to the early afternoon.
To confirm the impression an experiment was carried out. The wind was visualized itself and without the directly contact to a person. In this experiment, the drawing sheets were changed every full hour. This created a series of 24 wind drawings on which the wind force can be analyzed.
The results give prove that the wind force during 24 hours, on June 7th 2016, confirm to the impression.
